That’s one heck of a nice comment to wake up to and read. Racism, in its myriad and subtle forms, continues to just tear this country apart. With a bit of effort we could actually become the country that we brag that we are. Thanks Deb…whoever you are!

I’ve been twice. And both times I wondered, “Is this even worth it?” But is is fun to be that far away and to be aware of what a bad place the Maze is to get in trouble.

Respite…respect…they’re both good.

Thank you for speaking the truth in love. As a woman lucky enough to have grown up in the Western US, I resonate with your love of red rock country and mountain vista's. I am privileged enough to have played often in both.

For me, the awareness that the impacts of systemic racism reach deeply into American life became evident as truth was spoken. Not that I was unaware of the impacts of racism all along, but it's pervasive nature in our systems and structures and my complicity in acceptance and promulgation are now crystal clear.

May every action I take, every conversation I have be centered in an awareness to reduce the harm and impacts of racism.

Thank you for civil conversations,

Deb Bailey

Glad you got some respite Wayne. Note that my autofill wanted to replace “respite” with “respect”, which you also deserve and shouldn’t have to crusade for.

Beautiful place. One day I’ll get to the Maze, but driving rock roads is so bone jarring I keep putting it off.
